To Dokaraki

To Dokaraki (Το Δοκαράκι) is the compact agricultural shop on Methoni’s main street that many olive growers and smallholders in Messinia already know by name. Do not judge it by the modest storefront. Behind the glass sits a well-stocked specialist operation run by Nikolaos Babalis, a passionate expert in agricultural machinery and products who can advise on olive harvest equipment, source parts, and order almost anything you need for the grove, the garden, or the workshop.

Olive harvest equipment

This is the shop’s strongest suit. On the shelves and on display you will find the characteristic red-and-white spiked harvesting heads (the rotating “stars” with flexible white fingers) used on modern olive beaters, along with complete long-reach poles—some carbon-fibre or composite—ready to attach. Spare heads, fittings, and related accessories are kept in stock so that no obstacle stops the harvest. Nikolaos can talk through which head and pole combination suits Koroneiki or other local varieties and the terrain around Methoni.

Engines, spare parts and tools

Small gasoline engines are a regular feature: Robin 6.0 hp units (including wheeled cart-mounted versions that look ready for pump or implement duty) and Visco 212 cc engines (VC2120-FA and similar). The shop carries Visco Parts chainsaw bars and chains in multiple lengths and profiles (including carving and power-roll types), trimmer heads, line, and related consumables. Spark plugs (Denso among them), carburettors, and organised small-parts drawers mean everyday repairs can often be handled on the spot.

Lubricants, fluids and tyres

A wide range of oils is on the shelves and in the window displays:

  • 2-stroke “No Smoke” fully synthetic oils (red and blue, VC Oil)

  • 4-stroke motor oils (Galaxy Multi 20W-50, Generoil SAE 30, Extreme 10W-40 / 15W-40 / 20W-50)

  • Dedicated chainsaw bar-and-chain oil (Ultra Lube, 1 L and 4 L)

  • ATF, 2-stroke premix, antifreeze/coolants and screenwash

Wheels and tyres are also stocked—small pneumatic wheels with red hubs of the type used on carts and implements, plus larger agricultural tyres. Combined with the repair capability mentioned by the owner, this covers both new fitment and replacements.

The real advantage: advice and sourcing

The shop is small, but that is not a limitation. Nikolaos Babalis knows the machinery and the local olive-growing calendar. He can recommend the right head, oil, or spare, explain maintenance, and order items that are not on the shelf. Whether you need a specific Visco bar, a particular engine, extra harvesting heads, or something less common, he can source it. First-aid kits, penetrant sprays, hoses and fittings sit alongside the core agricultural lines, so a single visit often covers several jobs.

Located on the main street in the village of Methoni, To Dokaraki is easy to reach on foot or by car. Walk in with a question about this season’s harvest, a broken part, or a new machine and you will get practical, experienced advice rather than a generic sales pitch. For olive growers, small-engine users, and anyone who keeps agricultural equipment running in Messinia, it is a useful local address.
