What aspects of village life do you find most enriching or meaningful?
In Methoni, what truly fills you is the daily connection with the sea and the sense of freedom. You can capture scenes that others might only see on postcards. That creativity makes you feel expressive and, at the same time, relaxed. The village’s calmness gives you the space you need to plan your goals and work without the stress and noise that comes with Athens. Even the smallest interactions with people there carry a different kind of value.
Do you have recommendations for visitors to truly experience the authentic charm of our village?
If I were a visitor coming to Methoni, I’d say the authentic charm of the village lies in the simple moments. It's not just about the castle or the well-known sights; it's about walking through the narrow streets and tuning in to the everyday rhythm of village life. Sitting down with locals for a coffee and striking up a conversation. Even an evening stroll to the port, watching the fishermen return with their boats—that alone is full of charm. And of course, authenticity also comes through simplicity: a sunset over the castle, a swim at a quiet beach, or an evening with wine and mezze shared with friends. These are the moments that stay with you and make Methoni truly special.
Can you share a special memory or story that reflects the unique character of our community?
I remember once, while I was out with my drone taking shots of the port and the castle, an old man called me over to show me how they clean fish. He even gave me a small fish as a gift, saying, “this is so you’ll remember Methoni.” I didn’t know him, and he didn’t know me… I think I’ll remember that gesture for a very long time.
If you could turn back time, would you do anything differently in your life?
I think if I could turn back time, I wouldn’t change the major things in my life, but maybe I would have made a little more room for the small moments that build memories. Maybe I would have spent more time traveling— something I truly love.
